Do I need an internet connection?
Speech recognition itself runs completely offline on your computer - no audio or text data is sent to the cloud. An internet connection is only needed for: downloading the app and speech models, registration and license purchase, occasional license verification, and app updates.
Which operating systems are supported?
Speecher is available for Linux (deb, rpm, AppImage), Windows (exe) and macOS (dmg).
How accurate is the speech recognition?
Accuracy depends on the chosen speech model. Speecher offers models from fast (tiny, 75 MB) to very accurate (large, 3 GB). For most use cases, we recommend the medium model as the best compromise.
What is the text cleanup feature?
An optional feature that automatically improves your dictated text: filler words are removed, grammar is corrected and punctuation is added. It uses Ollama (a local AI system) which you can install separately.
Is Speecher GDPR compliant?
Yes, by design. No data is sent to external servers. All audio data is processed exclusively on your device and is never stored or transmitted.
